The comments at the bottom of the post hit the nail right on the head. I maintain that I came up with this first, but that is because I am self-absorbed.

Everyone gets a state recognized "Union", it's the same for everyone, you apply, you get approved, you are in a Union. Regardless of orientation. You want to break that Union, you hire a lawyer and dissolve the contract.

If you want your church to recognize your union and proclaim it a "Marriage" go right ahead.
