In a Foul Mood
The Mets stink, seriously.
The Public Health Care Option looks like a very long shot at this point.
I suck at softball.
My leg hurts where I took off all the skin sliding into third as I successfully went first to third on a single to right-center and ignored the third base coach who was telling me to stop at second. (truth be told I didnt actually even hear him)
And I most likely won't get the car I thought I bought yesterday. Crappy day. Thank the Gods© I have Avi tonight.

Saw This Last Night
I cried, and every single hair on the back of my neck was standing up. I don't want to allow myself to get as excited as I am getting.
The Summer of Movies continues.
Adding... "Fight Back, you Coward" if only Harry knew.
God, I want Tigers

It is my life's ambition to raise tigers. Someday when Avi is grown up, I am going out west and raising tigers.
On the way home last night I stopped the car on the on-ramp for the express way because a baby kitten was running across the street. I tried to grab her, but she ran away into the woods. Probably feral anyway, but it would have been sweet if she was a tiger.

Friday Morning Music on Saturday Morning
Busy morning yesterday at work. Luckily I got my Flippy-Floppies.
Agreed
12 things they should not have cut from the Harry Potter films.
One of these in particular jumps off the page at me. At the end of the 3rd movie, it was just plain laziness that led to them not spending 4 minutes between Harry and Lupin where Lupin could explain the origins of the Marauder's Map and the friendship between himself, James, Sirius and that slimy git fuck Peter Pettigrew.
This was THE key plot point to the third book, it begins the idea of Harry connecting his life, and his fight against He Must Not Be Named, to the fight that his parents undertook.
Watching the 3rd movie the first time, I was shocked they left this out.
The other major thing they left out was hiring a Dumbledore who didn't refuse to read the book, and who understood that my Dumbledore would never yell at a group of students, or take Harry by the shoulders and shake him.
Movie 6 in like 3 weeks.

Four Weeks

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released in four weeks.
The LA Times has an interview up with the screen writer (butcher) who wrote the screen plays for films 1-4 but not 5. I actually didn't know this, and it makes me a bit unsettled, as movie 5 was the one that I thought they did the best job of adapting to screen.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/06/countdown-to-harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince-steve-kloves-talks-up-the-final-moments-between-.html
I won't spoil the contents of the article for you, but I will say this... If they left out Dumbledore's funeral, which it sounds like they did, I am not sure how I am going to feel about it. That scene marks the beginning of Harry's transition to independence.
The transition that sees is completion with the scene at Shell Cottage where Harry makes the final choice between Horcruxes and Hallows. I am going to take a wait and see approach.
So far the Summer of Movies has not disappointed.

Bill Maher on Obama
I have to say that I agree with him. I am one of those who says: "I love that Obama is my President, now get something done."
I am hoping for a little more Audacity:
I have my issues with Bill Maher, but he is dead on right here.

The Public Option

So, there is a major debate approaching about the future of the health care industry and how people pay for their most basic of human needs.
In typical Progressive fashion, I am 100% in favor of public health insurance. I don't care if it submarines the Insurance Industry, I don't care if it changes the face of how we provide health care in this country. Socialism does not scare me, not being able to afford to keep my child alive scares me.
I am a living breathing example of why Big Government works. My daughter has "socialized" state sponsored health insurance which is very affordable, and it has been wonderful knowing that she is safe and protected if something were to happen.
I can afford my house because the Government made an investement in me.

Hilarious.

Some Friday Music
Friday Music to start the weekend off right.
The craziness continues. Something happened when I went to Lake George for Memorial Day, I am walking backwards in time. On days I don't have Avi (I am dedicated to still being a good dad when I do have her) I am out of control, I mean I think I am about one crazy week away from auditioning for Intervention. I have no idea what in the world has come over me, but it has certainly been an entertaining ride. Way, way Worth It.

Just a Hunch
Between Santana ignoring the signs and the yelling at Manuel while he shook the ball in his face prior to stalking off the mound Tuesday night, and David Wright seen visibly imploring Manuel to go argue a call at first base that went against the Mets (he didn't argue it), I will say that I am feeling a bit of frustration on the part of the Mets players as it relates to their manager.
When the Mets made the move (just about a year ago) to end the Willie Randolph's reign of Terror and no double switches, I was all for it. When they named Jerry the Gangsta Manuel as Randolph's replacement, I loved it.
When Manuel was forced to pull Reyes due to injury during his first game as manager, much to Reyes' dismay, I was thrilled.
Since that day, I have been decidedly underwhelmed.
It is not Manuel's fault that Delgado, Reyes, Church, Perez, and every other player we have has been hurt this year.
But the stupid baserunning, the unfoced approach to the game, the losses to Washington and Pittsburgh, this stuff has to start to fall on Manuel's shoulders.
I hate the Mets.
Letterman
I actually thought the jokes were funny. How convienient that she can use her children, including her child with a disability as stage props during her failed run at the Vice Presidency, but it's not ok for people to make fun of their farce of a family.
Get a life Sara.

Long night last night. This was in my head when I could not sleep. I promise that by next week I will have moved on to something new. Maybe.

Great Read.
The comments at the bottom of the post hit the nail right on the head. I maintain that I came up with this first, but that is because I am self-absorbed.
Everyone gets a state recognized "Union", it's the same for everyone, you apply, you get approved, you are in a Union. Regardless of orientation. You want to break that Union, you hire a lawyer and dissolve the contract.
If you want your church to recognize your union and proclaim it a "Marriage" go right ahead.
(Yes that is a link embedded in my post, thanks Matt).

I relate life in the military to life in a college football locker room/training camp dorm.
I think that there are a lot of similarities. Lots of guys, close proximity, limited privacy, we depend on each other for our collective success etc.
And I think, how would that locker room, over 100 guys changing, showering, dressing, be affected by one or more of those guys making it public that they were gay. In my 10 years of playing football, I am absolutely certain I played with at least a few gay men.
Honestly I don't know how the dynamics of that room would change, but I have to believe that if a player were dismissed from the team for being openly gay, I would be the next person to walk out the door. But of course I am a raging liberal, not true for most of the guys I played with.

Ozzie Speaks

Ozzie Guillen on his team's offensive struggles:
If this was the 1980s, [none] of these guys would be in the big leagues right now because if you hit .210-.230 and you can't execute, I don't think you should be out here. When you can't bunt, hit-and-run, squeeze and move the guy over, you better hit 40 home runs and drive in 140. Is the clubhouse closed? We should open it and let them [answer] why they're so horse [expletive]. I talked to them. One thing about it: Good teams win games. Bad teams have meetings. Well, I think we're to the point of having a lot of meetings. That's all I can say.
I know how he feels. It seems like the last two years the Mets have been a "meeting" team, not a winning team.
I though a lot of this would change when the Mets brought in Snoop Manuel of the "Gangstas get on the field, ladies get on the bus" quote fame.
Unfortunately I have seen little to no difference between Manuel's managerial style and his moronic predecessor.
If Ozzie hates his team so much, maybe instead of a bat or an arm for the rotation, Omar could swing a deal with the White Sox for Ozz, sending Snoop back to his old team.
I traded away David Wright, the #1 overall pick in my league (I had the #1 pick and did not take Pujols, really Terrance?) and I am having no pangs of regret at this point. June 9th and Wright has 3 bombs. Brewer's Ace Yovanni Gallardo has 3 bombs. He is a pitcher.

Because I cannot embed this, just copy and paste it. It is very good and gets at the heart of the one major issue that is disheartening me about the Obama administration. There are a few issues that get to the core of what it is that I believe in, and why I voted the way I voted. Near the very top of that list is Civil Rights for people of all sexual prefences.
I am a realist and I understand that the President has a limited amount of political capital to spend and that Public Health Care needs to be at the top of his list of priorities. I get that.
But the part of me that cried every time he spoke leading up to the election. The part of me that still gets excited when I hear him speak, that part of me needs to hear him come out, strong on this issue.
Just keep hammering on the fact that this is a civil rights issue. This is not religious, this is not about what your book of stories says about marriage being between a man and a woman. This is about Inalienable Rights.
Time Bomb
Live from the Beacon Theatre
I am feeling this today.
Late softball game last night, couldn't fall asleep until very late.
On a side note, it dawned on me that I am much, much funnier when I write then when I speak. This was brought to my attention recently. I need to write more, I just struggle to come up with things that are the least bit interesting.
The conclusion I drew was to just writer whatever the hell came to my mind, regardless of relevance.
I finished "Mistborn: The Final Empire" last night, for the second time. Sweet book. Read it.

GrooGrux
I realize this is getting a tad redundant at this point. I just feel very passionate about this album. I stuck with them through Everyday. I actually enjoyed most of Stand Up. I have held on through the bad years. I saw the video of Carter getting pissed at Dave mid-concert.
I feel like this album is the validation of a career of work. I feel like my fandom is being justified.
Seriously, take the time to watch the whole concert I posted below, or go:

And this album will punch you in the face.
Fuck You Glen Ballard.
Part 1 was last night and Avi and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Congratulations guys, you proved to the world that you continue to be counted among the best bands on the planet.

Terminator, Salvation
I took myself to see this Saturday night. I was not disappointed. It was exactly what I thought it was. I enjoyed the hell out of it. And in a weird twist of irony, I found myself cheering for the robot, which is crazy.
So far, I would rank it ahead of Wolverine but behind the awesomeness that was Star Trek.
The Summer of Movies continues.
I'm Like You Tom, I'm Different
My excitement is building for this.
I am on record having said that the 5th movie was head and shoulders the best of the lot. I still have issues with the series in film. Most of my issues center on Michael Gambon and his refusal to read the books. If he were to read them, I am sure he would come to the same conclusion that I have, the dude sucks as Dumbledore.
The Summer of the Movie continues.
