Arizona!?



The Obama Campaign is running Ads in Arizona! Forcing John McCain to campaign there on Monday. The Day before the election McCain is going to be defending his own state!

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — In a bold move brimming with confidence, Democrat Barack Obama broadened his advertising campaign on Friday into two once reliably Republican states and further bedeviled rival John McCain by placing a commercial in the Republican presidential nominee's home state of Arizona.

Obama's campaign, capitalizing on his vast financial resources and a favorable political climate, announced that it was going back up with advertising in Georgia and North Dakota, two GOP states that it had teased with ads earlier in the general election campaign but then abandoned.


I don't think Obama is doing this because he thinks he is going to win there. I think he is doing this to show just how Screwed Senator McCain is.

This Says it All



I have tried to not post any McCain-Palin stuff this week. This week is not about John McCain. My thoughts on this week, and the next few days, I will hold onto until Wednesday morning.

But this was too good to not use.

With Four Days to Go

With Four Days to Go I have basically fallen off of the face of the blogging map. I don't know what happend.

I am somewhere between completely confident, and petrified. I can't wait for the next few days to go by.

Here is what I know: If Obama wins Virginia, and Pennslyvainia, or Ohio this thing is over. Period. McCain has to win all of the Bush '04 states (which he wont) and Pennslyvainaia in order to win. Which he wont.

What worries me is that Obama needs more than a 275-265 win. Obama needs an electoral Mandate to have any power at all.

Do a similar excercise with Senator Obama. A young man raised of a single mother, fed off food stamps, never knows his father. He puts himself through the best schools in our country by taking out student loans. Instead of working at any number of high paying law firms, he chooses to go to Chicago's North Side and help those who need it most. He marries a beautiful and successful woman, one he wins over by playing basketball with her brothers. They have two perfect daughters. He delivers THE SPEECH of the 2004 Democratic Convention. He becomes the talk of the Democratic Party. He soundly defeats the most popular brand in American Politics by organizing people in a way that Presidential Politics have never seen. He delivers the most moving convention speech in history infront of 85,000 people. He is a running against a party that has run this country into the ground in every way possible for eight long years. His opponent is unable to seperate himself from that administration. He is ahead by double digits in the polls in every key state one week from the election.

Now Imagine he is white.

He is going to win this. He is going to win this is a landslide.

That being said, RACE continues to be an issue in the country. The media will frame this as Obama's problem.

This is not Obama's problem. This is America's problem.

Obama is going to change that.

When a black man runs for high office, or a black woman for that matter (Hillary Clinton you deserve recognition here), it will be "normal" because of Barack.

When I am interviewing students about what they want to be when they grow up, and they say Teacher, or Doctor, or Lawyer, or President. I won't bat an eyelash, because of Barack.

One week out I am not pulling my hair out in fret. I am not panicked about assasination threats, or voter fraud.

I am in a sublime state of confidence. I am enjoying every minute of this. I don't want to look back years from now and think about how stressed I was before this happened. I cannot change what is going to happen. But I can enjoy it.

Why This Matters? -Education



To a group of 14 and 15 year-olds at East High, why does this Matter?

It matters because as cliche as it sounds, there simply is nothing more important than education. I realize that saying something like that, and proving it to high school students are two completely different things.

Without Education, who will run our banks, our stores, our factories? Who will pave our roads, and fix our cars? Who will teach our children, and their children? Who will be our President?

There is an awesome responsibility on the students of today to achive towards tomorrow.

No Child Left Behind is a federal law that places an emphasis on results, specifically test scores, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the learning that is taking place.

This law places a tremendous responsibility on both teachers and students. Without results, schools can be forced to close. This means less schools, less teachers and less choice. The less schools their are, the larger the class sizes are going to be creating a more difficult situation for learning.

No Child Left Behind creates a vicious cycle where teachers are pressured into teaching to tests in order to keep thier jobs.

Barack Obama plans on reforming this system. The inherent failure of NCLB is that it has never been properly funded. Schools have been mandated to show vast improvements in tests scores, while being denied the federal support that they require to effectively deliver the education necessary to reach the bench marks that have been put in place.

This means less teachers, less Text Books, less time to teach, and more emphasis on Standardized Tests. Tests that fail to judge the ability of a student.

Education is a Democratic Platform. Republicans believe in less Government, which means no publicly financed education.

Obama is also focusing on affordable higher education. Offering a $4000 a year credit to any student who performs community service or volunteers.

When I try to explain the importance of education to a teenager I say this: Education gives a young person options. You start life with an unlimited number of possiblities for what you can choose to do with your life. As you grow and make choices, your possibilities are either increased, or decreased depending on the consequences of the choices that are made.

More education means more possiblities. Period. If I choose at 25 that teaching isn't what I want to do, I can choose to do something else, because my education has granted me possiblities.

Had I not graduated from college, had I not graduated from high school, those possiblities would be limited.

I am in no way saying that you absolutely have to go to college to have a good life. What I am simply saying is that More Education = More Choices.

Barack Obama is going to make getting an education easier. He is going to make the education that high schoolers are currently getting more effective, thus creating more possibilites.

Which is Why This Matters.

Why this Matters? -Family Values


Why this Matter? A question I am trying to answer. I think maybe one long windy response to that question is not appropriate. I am going to attempt to break it down into smaller sections. Here goes the first one.

Family Values


I would preface this by saying, "In my opinion", but this is my site, so of course it is my opinion. The title is "Terry-Gilmores-Head".

For too long, far, far too long the right wing of American politics has had a monopoly on the concept of "Family" and "Values". I believe that those days are numbered. The portrait of the American Family is no longer a beautifully colorless canvass painted by Norman Rockwell.

No longer is the "Greatest Generation" one that is suck in a mindset that was developed during some of the darkest times in America's history.

It is my contention that the Greatest Generation is one in which Color, or Faith, or whatever has in the past been used to divide us, no longer holds sway.

The New Greatest Generation is one that in a time of need, turns to perhaps its most capable leader. Regardless of his name, or where his father was born.

There is a theory that from Crisis comes our greatest Opportunity. An Oppertunity for Change. Real, meaningful Change.

It was during a time of Crisis, an unsettled period of American History that Barack Obama shaped his world-view.

It is during a similar time of Crisis that we need that world view more than ever.

The Fatherless has become the Father. Barack Obama has been recently accused of being too eloquent. That he is too good with words.

What Barack Obama has said to me, without speaking a word, is that all Families have Value.

We may not fit easily into a Norman Rockwell painting. We paint our picture with our own brush. And our Palette contains many more colors.

What Barack Obama says without speaking that that the child of a single parent is in no way limited in what he or she can accomplish. That the daughter of a single father and a single mother is capable of being what ever she wants to be.

What Barack Obama says to me, his lips never moving, is that a ceremony on a beach means just as much, if not more than one held in a church, or a back yard.

The Obama's are the new portrait of an American Family, and that is why this matters.

Why? Georgia?

Obama-Penn State



We are witnessing a convergence of my two favorite things. Penn State, and Obama.

I love winning. I really do. I am the guy who would play an entire season on Madden on the Rookie Level just so I could score 100 points a game. I love winning that much that it wouldn't get boring to me. I realize how bad that sounds and I am totally OK with it. I hate losing. I love winning.

And that is exactly was Obama and Penn State are doing. The best part is, they are both doing it in the same part of the country. The Big 10.

Penn State crushed Michigan in what looked like it would be a close game.

Obama is beating McCain so badly in Michigan, which was thought to be a battle ground state, that the McCain Campaign pulled all of the resources out of the state and left it for dead.

Penn State beat Temple University like they stole something.

Obama is up by double digits in the Keystone State.

This week, my Lions travel to Columbus to take on my second least favorite college football team, Ohio State.

My Lions are favored by 3, Obama, by 12.

Illinois, a lock for Obama, his home state. A lock for Penn State, they squeezed Juice Williams and the rest of the Fighting Illini.

Wisconsin, thought to be a tough game for Penn State... NOT

Thought to be a tough state for O, THAT ONE! is up by 13.

Still on the schedule for the Lions, Indiana (Obama up 10), Iowa (Obama up 13), and Michigan State (we already talked about that one).

The point is, A. I like winning, and B. My "teams" are winning, and I love it.

The narrative in the media is going to be that Obama is too sure of himself, and that they are calling it too soon.

The FACTS ARE, that if things stay as they are, Obama is going to win in an absolute landslide.

Early voting has begun in most states. 750,000 people have voted already in North Carolina, and an estimated 56% of those voted for Obama, this is North Carolina we are talking about.

Mike Alstott



His Number was retired in Tampa Sunday night.

I know this may seem like a silly thing, but I did not care about NFL football until I was in 9th grade. I was playing Freshman Football, I was the tailback. I ran over a teammate on the goal line in practice one day, and he compared me to Alstott. I had no idea what he was talking about.

I did some research, and in 1998 I became a Bucs fan. Actually I became an Alstott fan, who liked the Bucs. From 98-02 the Bucs represented all that I love about football. Good D, great running game, smart coach, and Alstott.

I Hate Jon Gruden, but I cannot stop watching the Bucs.

Today's Live Music



There could be a genre of music called "anti-George Bush", Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, Green Day, System of a Down have all made some of their best music in response the failed policies of this administration.

I started crying today thinking about taking Avi into the booth with me on the 4th. Actually holding her when I pull the lever, taking a picture with my phone, and being able to tell her that she was there the day I voted for a black man for president.

I went to see "Religulous" the other day with my movie guy. I have a lot of thoughts about it, and I would be lying if I said I were not changed by the film. I don't have the mental space, or the time to expound on what I thought.

I am calling it right now.

The final tally on November 4th is going to be 53-39.

I am hesitant to use the "L" word (psssst, landslide), but I do not think it is going to be close.

I will admit that I am about as anxious as I have ever been about this. I am mentally exhausted thinking and writing about it, and for about six seconds today I swore I would not look at pollster.com, or fivethirtyeight.com for the next two weeks.

It didn't last.

I am guessing that there is going to be some tightening in the national polls over the next two weeks, followed by an overwhelming turn out for Obama on the 4th.



There have been reports of hour long waits in towns as small as 10,000 for early voting. That's right, I said early voting, it is not even close to the 4th yet. Who exactly do you think all of those people are so excited to go vote for?

I continue to maintain that the polls are not accurately reflecting support of Senator Obama because of Cell Phone use.

This was not accidental. Period. I played Linebacker, as did this Ref. The way he shuffles his feet to get himself into position to make a solid tackle is almost perfect form. He could lower his ass a little bit and get his weight over his toes, not to mention he needs to get his head across the ball carrier.

The point being however, he was not "trying to get out of the way" like he has claimed.

My best guess is that for a minute, he forgot that he is not playing anymore.

I find myself moving slightly on the couch during close-up replays of defensive plays sometimes, getting my body in position to deliver a blow.

That is probably what happend here. He spent years of his life honing his insticts to make hits like this. He simply forgot what he was doing.

Good God, I hate America?

Penn State is Awesome




The first BCS standings came out yesterday, no real suprises. Texas is number 1 coming off an absolute beating of Missouri. Alabama is 2 and My Lions are a solid 3.

I hate the college football bowl system. I am absolutely an advocate for a playoff. I will however conceed the point that the current system does make for a very exciting regular season.

Penn State has a major hurdle to overcome Saturday if they have national title asperations. I hate Ohio State.

Saturday Penn State played Michigan, boasting a pefect record, and I had a wedding to go to.

The last time Penn State had a perfect record, played Michigan, and I had a wedding to go to was in 2005. That Penn State team had national title asperations. I was in California. Penn State was winning, until the last play of the game. I hate Michigan.

This time, not so lucky. When I went down for the Ceremony, Penn State was losing 17-14 and history looked to be repeating itself. By the time I put back my 8th Cuervo Black and Coke (my new drink, thanks Drew), the Lions had hung 32 unanswered points on Michigan.

I am jacked about Saturday. I hate Ohio State.

I can’t listen to a single news program since John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate without hearing how the Alaskan Governor and chronic mediaphobe has “shored up The Base”; how she herself is a bold and daring “play to The Base”; that with her aw-shucksy cornpone charm (or whatever they pone in Alaska; oil maybe? Moose?) and dazzling lack of anything remotely presidential, she’s “electrified The Base.” This is swell. Democrats and Republicans alike know exactly who a reporter or pundit is talking about when they invoke the Conservative Base: Mostly-white, mostly-married, largely church-going, vaguely racist, The God™- and queer-fearing Protestants whose only variation on The Missionary Position is the Under-the-Stall-Secret-Handshake in a Minneapolis men’s room. So giving us Sarah Palin as nothing but a cynical Dutch Boy’s Finger in The Weeping Dyke* that was The Conservative Base prior to the Republican National Convention helps paint her into the miserably small corner she’s been occupying ever since: She’s the cute but cursed Cassandra in a room full of True Believers, prophetess of an imagined doom that plays The Base like Nero’s blazing fiddle.

But ask a typical armchair wonk about the Democratic Base and you’re likely to get a blank stare, a dismissive shrug, or something about Free Drug Needles and Marijuana Welfare For Handgun-Banning Muslim Abortionists. That’s because we Democrats rarely agree on anything, have no One Honky God behind which to hurl epithets at Brown People, and haven’t been able to explain why being a “Liberal” is good since Pat Buchanan possibly shot JFK from The Grassy Knoll™. This used to annoy me, and annoy at least one other Liberal enough to write a book about it. But since The Palin Gambit and her shrill, shrieking, utterly contemptuous rallying of The Base not as a movement of good and a force for change but into an engine of hate and bigotry and now overt declarations of violence, I couldn’t be happier that the Democratic Party eschews the ideological zealotry of Base-building politics.

Because here’s my Friendly Reminder for the true Independents and moderate Republicans and racist Democrats that haven’t yet made up their minds because, Doggone It™, Sarah Palin looks so darned-tootin cute in her knee-high boots and higher skirts, with her starburst-ricocheting winkage aimed directly at Joe Six-Pack’s desperately underused genitals, and my reminder is this: “Al-Qaeda” is Arabic for “The Base.” Remember that the next time you see Sarah Palin working The Base. Remember that the next time you hear an American citizen shout “Kill him” or “Traitor” at a political rally-cum-seething mob. Al-Qaeda is Arabic for “The Base.” Anger and resentment, tinged with overt racism and powered by a long-simmering tribal conflict – Us versus Them, Black versus White, Christian versus Muslim – needs only a plain-talking but charismatic leader to become something dangerous, something radical, something Terrible. And it is from a Base of sympathetic ideologues that such a terror often leaps, whether in a handful of aircraft-turned-missiles, or the assassin’s simple bullet.

That John McCain and his panicked cabal of Bush-league attack dogs can only send Sarah Palin into these nests of ideological safety is no accident, and should surprise no one that has witnessed the train-wreck-in-a-Hindenburg-explosion that is her ability to parse complex data while suffering the Slings and Arrows of so outrageous a fortune as Katie Couric. That she is able (and not a little willing) to incite such fearful passion and explosive anger in The Base – you know, “The Base”; it’s English for “Al-Qaeda” – may be accidental indeed, and have historic consequences far beyond her control, or any other.

Like I said the other day, The McCain-Palin campaign is crossing a dangerous line here. There are people in their crowds who are not as politically cynical as they are, and do not realize that they are just saying these things to get elected.

Sarah Palin is going to destroy the Republican brand.

I know that Obama taking such a commanding lead in the polls has been attribued to the economic crisis. The Corporate Media has used that as the #1 reason Obama has pulled so far ahead.

I would like to present a few counter arguments. We saw something similar with the Democratic Primary as well. The longer that people had to get to know him, the more he began to pull ahead of Senator Clinton. It is fairly obvious he is of mixed race, and has a funny name. There are a lot of people who unlike me, are not immediately prepared to embrace him.

I think that the increased exposure people have had to him, as well as the time they have gotten to know (and dislike, 37% favorablity rating) The SaraCudda, has led to him pulling away.

I am not nieve enough to think that the economy has not played a huge part here.
Obama has appeared calm, cool, and providing something new and powerful.

Quick Debate reactions.

1. Obama won, again. This was supposed to be John McCain's strong suit, he begged Obama to do town halls, and while Obama was calm, honest, spoke directly to the people, talked directly to the viewers at home, McCain was Skulking, whispery, he referred to me one to many times as his friend, and he flat out lost.

2. McCain turned his back on the black woman who asked him a question while he was still mid-answer. He rudely corrected the young black man who asked the question about the bailout plan shouting "Rescuse" at him, and blantantly refussed to shake hands with Obama at the end of the debate:

In what was the worst moment of the Debate for Smeagol/Gollum, he referred to Senator as "That One!" which goes beyond just a hint of condescention and racsim. Replace "One" with which ever racial epithet you choose, and it is ugly. Like the McCain/Palin campaign has become.

I don't know that John McCain hates black people, but he clearly does not like Senator Obama.

In his view, he problaby sees Obama as someone who has not earned the right to take this away from him.

His tone was pleading last night, specifically when he talked about Bin Laden. Saying, "I'll Get 'em, trust me I'll get 'em" "I can do it, you know I can do it". That may be John, but what you are not telling the American people is what you will do to "do it".

He was shifty and waddling, he lurked in the background while Obama was talking. He made a few uncomfortable jokes. He said when asked by Brokaw, who would be your finance secretary: "Not you Tom". He made another weird joke about hair replacements. His Comb-over looked thinner and more ridiculous than ever.

Obama hit him hard on his "Speak softly and carry a big stick" line.

McCain has at least three heroes in his life, Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, and David Patreaus.

Not one word about Sarah Palin. Not one word about the Middle Class.

He did that thing again where he through out wild policy plans with no explaination and no prior knowledge of that being his platform. I refer to this as "The Monkey Throwing Shit Agaist the Wall Because it Keeps His Tiny Reptilian Brain Happy" Strategy.

What McCain needs, if winning is the goal, is to change the story line, which is that Obama is walking out the door with this election.

He did not do that last night. Period. The Debate was actually a little boring. Which is a major win for Senator Obama.

Crossing a Dangerous Line



I think the McCain/Palin Campaign is playing a very dangerous hand here.

I think they are acting like Crabbe and Goyle, having thrown off the leadership of Malfoy (Dubbya), and embarking on their own, used Fiend Fire in the room of requirement and ultimately costing one of them their lives.

McCain/Palin have a new pet, a very dangerous and unpredictable pet.

McWoodenTeeth and GILFey are tip-toeing across a dangerous line, one which once crossed, cannot be uncrossed. The side-effects of which could be beyond imagination.

They have begun to stoke the fires of Racism with their words at Campaign stops, saying things like Obama is "Dangerous" and that he "Doesn't see the world like you and me". This type of race-bating, divide and conquor, deception has a long ugly history in this country.

Going back to the 1670s in Virginia, those in power have sought to identify and highlight differences between poor whites and poor blacks. One of the results of Bacon's Rebellion (1676), where poor whites and poor blacks fought together against the established aristocracy, was the institution of Racism and devide and conquor tactics used by the powerful.

An angry, disaffected white populace looking for someone to blame for their problems is a dangerous group for McCain/Palin to be pandering to.

What they are doing is attempting to give people who are struggling to make ends meet, someone to blame for their problems.

What they are saying in essence is, We realize you are having a hard time, ignore what we may have done to cause these problems, that's the guy you should be mad at, he is black and hangs out with Terrorists.

In reponse to these tactics we have already heard people in the crowd shout back, "Terrorist" and "Kill 'em" at McCain/Palin rallies.

I think these types of reactions are only going to become more and more prominant. With increased anger, and a feeling of it being ok to express that type of hatred.

If you see the video of McCain yesterday, when he asked "Who are you Senator Obama?" and the guy yelled back "Terrorist", McCain actually looked in the guy's direction and smiled. Much like his reaction to the "How we gonna beat the bitch?" question he answered during the primaries in reference to Hillary Clinton being the presumtive nominee.

By letting things like this go, John McCain and the Vapid Terrorist Lover, are in endorsing these opinions.

This is a dangerous line to cross. Once you unleash this fire you cannot control, don't be suprised if you get Burnt to a Crisp, your political career included.

I usually only post this map once a week, but I thought it was useful today seeing as Obama had possibly his single best polling day of the campaign yesterday amid a frezy of B.S. attacks.



You are a warped, twisted, frustrated old man John. This thing is slipping through your fingers and you can't stand it.

It is an eye opening piece. John McCain is not the man a lot of people have thought that he was. I will admit that even I bought into the narrative in 2000.

That simply is not who and what John McCain is.


What scares me, what keeps me awake at night is the reactions that 18 Percent-ers (those who still support our Moron In Cheif) have to these types of attacks. When you cast the man as different, When you potray him as a terrorist, you get reactions like you did yesterday at McCain/Palin rallys were it was clearly shouted "He's a Terrorist" and "Kill Him" by people in the audience.

That is why I was so outraged when the Clinton people did the same thing during the Primary.

My only hope is that the outcome is the same.

The Debate in a Nutshell



This was the moment of the debate that spoke to me, as a single father, a head of house, I felt this moment in my stomach.

I didn't realize where he was going until he got there. I instantly burst into tears.

I have had to get out of bed a 3:00 am to take care of a crying child when there is no one to roll over a wake up to help me out.

I have had to go from being up all night with a sick baby, to work all day, to a night with my sick child.

I feel you Joe.

I will say only this about Palin's "Performance"

A. She is very, very good a memorizing a few canned lines that she repeated over, and over again.

B. What the hell kind of parent keeps their infant with a disability up until 12 am to use as a prop on a stage. Disgusting.

Not In My House

I was told in my own home last night, in reference to Obama: "I can't look at that man, he makes my blood boil".

When I asked, how in the world that could be the case, how a 26-year old young woman could feel so strongly negative about the man that I feel so positive about, I was given some vague answer about an infant protection act.

What Terry did was do a little research on the topic. What I found was a list of Right-Wing wacko sites proclaiming that Obama is for Murding Children.

What the reality is, Obama did not support this legislation because it attempted to give equal protection under the constitution for Fetuses that were aborted late term because of the risk to the health of the mother.

Obama said:

... I just want to suggest... that this is probably not going to survive constitutional scrutiny.

Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a - child, a nine-month-old - child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place.

I mean, it - it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute. For that purpose, I think it would probably be found unconstitutional.


What Obama did was prevent the radical right wing from undermining Roe v. Wade on a state level by slapping the name "Infant Protection" on it.

Anti-Choice, right wingers use words like "Born Alive" and refer to fetuses as "Children" in an attempt to galvanize emotions.

I love my daughter in ways I didn't know were possible. Having her, however was our choice. One that we, and Senator Obama take very seriously.

Don't come into my house spouting this type of crap as the only reason you can muster for why you can't even look at the man.

After eight years of George Bush, can't we, as a nation get beyond this type of window dressing, emotional bull shit and focus on the issues, issues that Senator Obama has a clear advantage on.

When I have literally had to choose between gas in my car, and food in my fridge.

When we are in two wars, and facing two more, one with a nuclear Pakistan.

When the economy is crumbling because of the failed policies of George Bush and John "Keating Five" McCain.

When everything that we are proud of about this country is crashing down around our heads.

Can we not see past these types of issues.

Why Obama is Walking Away With This

(For Stars)


Perhaps the most moving seven minutes and forty seconds of the campaign.

It is because of things like this, people like this, that Obama is walking out the door with this election.

This is no accident. The polls I put up everyday are not just a reflection of McCain's ineptitudes. Like the Democratic Primary, it was not simply the way in which Clinton ran her campaign, and the mistakes that she made that led to Obama's win.

To believe such is to diminish what it is that he is doing. Something is happening, a threshold was crossed in America, and the people are pushing back.

Oh Boy



Yes, I realize there are 4 weeks until the election. Yes, I realize that a week is a lifetime in Politics.

The Curse of Nomah



Before Lord Voldemort became the Lord Voldemort we know, he attempted to secure the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. Tom Riddle approached Professor Dumbledore about the vacant position. Dumbledore, being much more clever than your average wizard, knew that Riddle was up to something and denied him the post.

Following this rejection, Riddle continued down the path towards becoming the worst Dark Wizard of all time. One consequence of this rejection that Dumbledore did not anticipate was that Riddle would place a curse on the position of DADA teacher, meaning no teacher would hold the position for more than a year.

Something similar has happened in Boston.



In 2004 the Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world by trading their "Derek Jeter" to the Cubs for Scott Williamson. The Red Sox made an addional move to acquire Orlando "Frodo" Cabrera from the Expos to fill the vacant Short Stop position.

If you know baseball, you know the rest of the story. Red Sox overcome a 3-0 deficit to the Yankees in the American League Championship, essentially ending the Yankees chances at continuing their dynasty. The Sox went on to sweep the Cardinals in the World Series, thus ending their 86-year championship drought.

Nomar went to to toil through injuries and metiocrity in Chicago and Los Angeles. He does however continue to sport the best head of hair in the sport.

Like Dumbledore however, the Red Sox have faced an unexpected consquence of their decision to cut ties with their Short Stop.

The Sox have been ridiculously unable to fill the postion since Nomah's departure.

Cabrera was allowed to leave as a free agent.

They suffered through the atrocity that was Edgar Renteria.

They paid through the nose for Julio "Crypt Keeper" Lugo, the Butcher of Barahona.

And now the Nation has turned it's lonely eyes to.... Jed Lowrie, seriously, Jed?

I was inspired to write this watching Game One of the AL Division Series in Anahiem. Lowrie butchered a routine play that ultimately led to a run because of his error. And I thought to myself, Nomah would have had that.

The Sox, led by Terry's hero Jon Lester were able to overcome the error and beat the Angles to take a 1-0 series lead.

But I still miss Nomah.

Cole Hamels reminds me of a guy I played football with in college, and he is a good pitcher. I was waiting for Lidge to blow it. I still can picture with absolute clearity the image of Pujols rounding the bases after taking Lidge deep.

I am trying to not think about shit like this. I think the outcome is going to be so overwhelming (as the polls are showing) that voter fraud isn't going to be enough to overcome this movement.

We are living through a incredible period of change. My ninth grade social studies teacher predicted that we were entering a decade long conservative swing in this country. That was in 1998.

Something is happening, and I can't quite define it.

I feel differently about the future.

Call it "Hope", call it whatever. Call it having something worth fighting for.

I love Baseball

I really love baseball. I am already over the Mets Collapse Part II. I watched the play-in game last night with as much interest as I did Opening Day.

The nice thing for me is that although I am a "Mets Fan" I am also a general Baseballphile. I just love this sport. I am going to enjoy the playoffs. I am going to enjoy Manny Ramirez and Joe Torre tormenting HankenStien. I am going to enjoy watching the Rays beat the White Sox. I am going to enjoy watching the Phillies fall flat on their faces again. I am going to enjoy watching the Red Sox make a bid for two in a row. I am going to enjoy watching one of my Heroes, Jon Lester shut down the Los Angels Angels of Anahiem, Orange County, California, America, the Western Hemisphere, the World, the Galaxy, the Universe, all of Creation.

I loved watching Josh Hamilton capture the hearts and minds of America.
I loved watching the Yankees fall apart.
I loved Harold Renyolds making his triumpant return to broadcasting.
I just simply love baseball.

I love that Jon Lester and Clay Bucholz have both pitched no-hitters and Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy can't stay in the majors.

I am going to enjoy this Mets-less playoffs more than I would had they squeezed in and gotten embaressed on national TV by their bullpen of Arsonists.
