Why I Am
Trying to get the flash player working on my "fixed" laptop, and needed to watch some Youtube videos to make sure I did it right.
Proctoring then grading the U.S. History Regents exam today. I almost feel like a real teacher.
First morning I have woken up this week feeling like I actually slept.

FYI: Your last two posts popped up in my read as:
Why I Am
Student Teaching
So, why *are* you student teaching? :)
Good freaking question. I suppose the answer is that it is a New York State requirement.
I actually was thinking a lot about assessment, and 603 today as I was proctoring and (scoring...don't tell the board of Regents, I am not a certified teacher) the U.S. History Regents today.
I had a few moral dilemas as I was going through the extended responses.
Some of the students were those that have been on my caseload for going on two years. Sudents who have sat at my desk and told me things about their personal lives that have sent me home in tears.
I had to sit and grade their exams and try to be as impartial as possible. I had to read essays that were probably 2s or possibly 3s, and wish they were 4s or 5s.
I think I did a very good job of being unbiased and honest, but it was in no way, shape or form easy.
I actually think I did a more accurate job grading the essays that the guy that I was rating with.
It was a very real life instance of many of the things we talked about in 603.
It was a blood bath at school today, the kids got massacared on the exam.
I took the U.S. History part I last June cold turkey, no studying, and got 49/50 correct.
This morning there were at least 10 questions I did not know. That isn't even counting the essays, which were not easy.
