There is a Tide that is Turning here.
Among registered voters surveyed in Colorado, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin and Nevada, Obama tops McCain 50 to 40%. Just a week ago, Obama led 45% to 42%.
And...
Rasmussen is closely mirroring the Research 2000 number for today: Obama 51, McCain 45.
The Map

Fired Up! Ready to Go!.
I have to be honest for a moment. It dawned on me, I mean really hit me the other morning, in Five Weeks From Today Barack Obama is going to win this thing in a landslide.
Five Weeks From Today, John McCain will be standing in front of literally dozens of people, giving a concession speech.
Five Weeks From Today Barack Obama will give the speech of his life.
Five Weeks From Today we will be on our way out of this mess.
Five Weeks From Today.

It feels a little different this year. Last year the ship sprung so many leaks it seemed like every time they patched a hole, another one spung up.
One day it was the hitting, the next the starting pitching, the next the defense, the next the bull pen.
This year the Starting pitching was consistantly good, and every fifth day it was great.
The problem this September was two fold. An utter inability to hit in the clutch, combined with a bull pen that boasted not one consistant performer.
The Offense ground it's bats to saw dust in anxiety trying to tack on runs to support a bull pen full of arsonists. The Arsonists could not hold a lead, no matter how big, to save their careers.
I honestly feel for Scott Schoeneweis. He had no business being on the mound yesterday facing a righty, and it was a good pitch. Helms just went down and got it.
But who exactly was the Gangsta going to go to. Luis Ayala? He tried that, Ayala relieved Bloweneweis only to give up another homer.
I think Manuel should be back next year. I am sure I will have more to say as time passes.
I am still excited for the playoffs. There are some good matchups. The Rays are a nice story. Manny and Torre tormenting Hank Steinbrenner is awesome.
If anyone should go, I think it should be Omar Minaya. He is the one who compiled this team around Pedro, Alou, Castillo, El Duque, Heilman, Shoewenweis, and the rest.
I would scrap the entire bull pen. Every guy can take a hike, keep perhaps Joe Smith and Brian Stokes.
I have a funny theory about what was wrong with this team, and it comes down to one position. I don't really feel like expanding on it now, but I think perhaps had this team had a long reliever in the bull pen, in the Darren Oliver mode, many of these guys would not have been over-used in blowout games in April, May and June, and could have perhaps had a few bullets left in thier guns. But what the hell do I know?

Santana is Gangsta

Jerry Manuel summed it up when he said: "That was Gangsta"
With the Mets season on the line, elimination staring the Mets directly in the eye, Santana spat in the Marlins face.
9 Innning, 3 Hits, 9 Strike Outs, No Runs.
Johan Santana is a Gangsta. Period.
The Mets now hold their destiny in their own hands. Keep winning, and their in.

McTemper
You listen to that closely, What was that Senator? What did you say there?
It sounded an awful lot like "Horse Shit" to me.
More Post-Debate Debate
Katie Couric just off of her drubbing of the GILF:
It is a win for Obama, there is no other way to spin it. He wins on the Economy, he wins with Independents, he wins with people who do not want a Reptile as president.
It is a win for Obama, there is no other way to spin it. He wins on the Economy, he wins with Independents, he wins with people who do not want a Reptile as president.
The Post-Debate-Debate
I am hoping you watched, and saw what I saw. Which was President Obama facing off with a smirking, sarcastic, little, angry man who was way over matched on what is supposed to be his strong suit.
This was one of the highlights, just watch McCain here:
I thought there was no debate over who "won" this thing. Watching "Morning Joe" with Scarby this morning, the only person who thought this thing was a win for McCain was Pat Buchannon and the McCain campaign spokes liars they had on.
Keep in mind that McCain came into this thing down 9 points in the national polls, having had the worst week of his campaign, and this was his strongest suit.
He needed a big time shift in momentum. Can you honestly say that he came out of last night having succeeded in that quest?
When watching this clip, watch the Yellow line, those are GOP voters who feel positive about Obama when he starts talking about McCain getting us into war.
CBS came out with a poll last night, 37% thought Obama won, 39% thought it was a tie, and 24% thought McWooden teeth won. That means 76% thought this was at the very least a very good night for Obama.
Awesome.
I will say that there were times where Obama could have been a little tougher. There were clearly times where McCain was distorting the record and Obama tried to counter and Grampy just talked over him and stuck to his script. Obama did a masterful job toeing that like between passionate and "angry".
The fact that the Lizard King (he looks reptilian to me) would not even look at him for an hour and a half was amazing.
I thought there were a few moments where McCain looked like he was counting backwards from 10 to keep his monumental temper in check.
And it was brought up again, whats the deal with his left eye. I think it is time that the man's medical records be released.
All in all, I don't see how last night changed much. Obama is clearly leading this thing in just about every measurable metric. The Economy is still the first thing on everyone's minds, and that is a loss for McCain.

Three Way

I don't know that I can take this, although I am enjoying the ride.
The Mets won in dramatic fashion last night, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Carlos (Strike Three Looking) Beltran ripped a single down the first base line to drive in the winning run in the 9th last night. (This of course after David Wright was unable to produce in the Clutch, again).
The Mets are now one game behind the Phillies in the NL East, and tied with the Brewers for the wildcard.
What this all means is that this has now become a Three Team, Three Game Playoff for two spots.
The funny part is that it is that all three teams are playing different teams, at home for the next three games.
On top of all of this, there is a very real possiblity that the weather could be an issue in Philly and New York this weekend, increasing the chances that games will have to be played on Monday, not counting potential tie-breaker play-in games.
What a wild, wild ride. Last year I was numb to all of this, I felt like it was just a matter of time before the Mets rolled over.
Under the Gangsta, this Mets team has shown a remarkable resiliency. Even as bad as Wednesday's loss was, and it was bad, this team comes back and wins a game like last night.
And... We Still have Johan.

Time Out!

John McCain has asked that Senator Obama join him and postpone the debate scheduled for Friday so that "The two of them can focus on the Economic Crisis we are facing".
I call Bullshit. Bullshit. You have Wooden Teeth John.
I think this has more to do with the 52-43 lead Obama has opened, the Press revolting against the McCain campaign for shutting them out when it comes to the GILF, his campaign manager taking money from Freddie Mac right up until the day that the Government bailed them out, and every other thing that has happened in the last few weeks that has me wondering if McCain will simply suspend his campaign all together.
I call Bullshit John. You don't get to call time out from being President when something bad happends. Grow up (you are 72) and be a leader.
Bye Bye Yankees
The Red Sox defeated the Indians last night to offically end the Yankees string of 13 straight playoff appearances for the Evil Empire.
Any excuse to show this again:
Any excuse to show this again:
Today's Ray of Hope
Today's reason to ignore the polls (by the way, today's ABC/Washington Post Poll Obama-52 McCain-43....it's turing into a landslide!)
But.... It may be an even bigger gap than that.
Ask yourself this question, how many 18-30 year-olds to you know what have a home phone number?
Let me say this, I am 25 and I am the only person I know in my age group with a home phone number.
Did you know that Polling agencies are not allowed to call Cell Phones. That means that anyone whose primary form of communication is thier Cell, is not being polled.
I am in college, and every single person, every last one that I have seen has a cell phone.
Multiply that by all the colleges, all over the country. All the young people all over the nation that are going to vote overwhelmingly for Obama are not being polled.
The Tide is Turning Folks!

Johan Santana

On a cold day in December, deep in the grip of winter's chill this Mets fan found reason to rejoice.
Eternally bumbling dofus General Manager Omar Minaya was gift-wrapped the best pitcher in baseball on a silver platter. The two main players in the Santana sweepstakes, the Yankees and Red Sox decided at the 11th hour that they were not willing to part with thier coveted prospects in exchange for the best pitcher in baseball (How many wins to Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy have this year? How's Melky Cabrera hitting in AAA?).
What the Mets did was hand over a bundle of talented prospects and a Seven Year 136 million dollar contract for the best pitcher in baseball.
I would make the deal, and sign the contract again in a heartbeat.
Santana has been everything I hoped for and more. He has been dominant, he has been stabilizing, he has been Johan Santana.
I cannot remember the number of times that Santana has started a game that was "Must Win". It seems like every game Johan has pitched, all season long, it was imperative that the Mets win.
All he has done is go undefeated since the All-Star Break.
All he did tonight, in a game that the Mets absolutely had to win, or else, 8 innings, 10 Strike Outs, and more pitches than he has ever thrown in his Major League career.
Nice Night Johan, thank You.
This, in a nutshell, is the difference between this year, and last year's collapse. This year, we have Johan.
Bullpen can't hold an 8 run lead, no problem, Johan will go the distance.
Nervous about pinch hitting for Johan, and going to the previously mentioned shaky pathetic excuse for a Major League Bull-pen, no problem, Johan can hit.
I feel infinitely more confident in the Mets right now than I did just 24 hours ago.
The next 6 days are going to be crazy, but no problem, We've got Johan.
Here It Is
I have been trying to be as tuned into this Economic Crisis as much as I can. The Government holds the morgage on my house, so I have a stake in this thing.
I think this explains what I think about as good as any.
Governor to Nowhere
And the Media Blackout continues. Sarah Palin has been the Republican Nominee for the Vice Presidency of the United States of America fo 40 days and she has done two interviews, Two.

Virginia!
According to SurveyUSA, who was the most accurate of the pollsters in the primary season.
Virginia
Obama - 51
McCain - 45
This is not my original idea, but I think that it is correct, Virginia is going to be the Bell Weather State on November 4th (I am having a party that night, and if you are reading this, you are invited, more information to follow). If Virginia is called for Obama early in the night, it is going to be a great night for Democrats. If Virginia is too close to call, it could be a long night. Not necessarily a bad night, just a long night.
W.
October 16th, just in time for the final push in the election. Anything to keep people thinking about John McCain and his BFF W.
Electoral Map 9-22

I am going to keep hammering away at this. The Corporate Media has to keep this thing compelling for the next five weeks so that they can bleed it for everything it is worth. Obama is pulling away and no one is reporting it.
September 16th will be look on as the day that this election turned. Period.
A five point lead in the national polls is a blowout in the electoral college. Just keep saying that to anyone who says "Why can't Obama close this thing out".
It is like the Twilight Zone, they said the same damn thing about him facing Hillary Clinton. What they didn't mention was that an Unknown, African-American, two-term senator beat the most popular political brand in America by running a completely new kind of Campaign.
John McCain has had three decades for people to become comfortable with the idea of him being President. Not to mention that he doesn't have to fight the historical prejudices that continue to exist in this country.
To the Corporate Media, it's not a story that Obama has overcome all of these things to lead the race for the Presidency of the United States. That is not enough of a story. The story is continually framed as: "Why isn't Obama doing better", or "Why won't white people vote for Obama?"
Casual observers sometimes miss the way that these arguments are framed. That is the unspoken power of the media, the way questions are framed, the way some responses are left unchallenged.
John McCain has wooden teeth.
The Human Wind Mill

(For Kate)
I let this one go last week, I thought about posting it, but decided against it because I thought no one would know what I was talking about. Appearently I underestimated someone.
Last week the Milwalkee Brewers fired their dick-head manager Ned Yost and replaced him with the human wind mill, third base coach Dale Sveum.
Dale, former Boston Red Sox third base coach, famous for getting three runners gunned down at home in one game, Sveum will take over the sinking ship that is the Brewers.
When ownership contacted Sveum to inquire as to whether or not he was interested in the position, the conversation went like this:
Owner: Hi Dale, we have decided to make a change in managers.
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: We have asked Yost to step down.
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: We did Dale, he's fired.
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: Jesus Dale, we fired him, we are asking you to take over as manager
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: We want you to lead this team on the strech run
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: Exactly, we want you to bring that playoff birth home! Glad to see you are so enthusiastic
Dale: Send 'em Home
Owner: Great Dale.

Hes Got This

He broke 50% in the Gallup Daily Tracking Poll today. What the corportate media, who has a vested interest in this thing staying close is not saying, is that a 5% margin in the national polls equals a blowout, landslide in the electoral college.
The Corporate Media will use only polls, and metrics that make this thing appear close, Obama running away with it is not a story.

There is a Little Voice in the Back of My Brain
Something just occured to me, as I sat here thinking about the campaign. I, and I assume most people, get so caught up in the day to day, hour to hour coverage of the campaign that I don't stop to think about what is really going on.
I stopped on the night of Obama's convention speech, and realized just how different he is. How unlike everyone who has ever ran for office in the country he really is.
Just now it hit me again. I was watching the scene from "The American President" where Michael Douglass grows a pair and hits back against Richard Dryfuss for the lies he is spreading. This is fictionalized, and not real.
But Obama has been doing this same exact thing' daily. The truth in how he speaks, his tone, his words it's all different. The Corporate Media does not know what to do with him, because they have never come across this before. None of us have.
I don't think it is just flowery rhetoric and pretty words. I really believe that he means what he says. He show flexibility when a situation calls for it. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "A foolish consistancy is the hobgoblin of simple minds". What he meant was that fools (like George Bush) stick to their guns even when the facts would show that a change in perspective is needed.
He stands firm when he feels that he is right, and must not waiver.
John McCain can't decide from day to day what his positions on the issues are. He took the Emerson quote and ran with it. He has decided that if he doesn't want to be a "simple mind" he wont be consistant from day to day.
I continue to believe that this thing is going to be a blowout.
West Virginia (yes the "we can't vote for Hoo-Sane Obama, he's a Muse-lim West Virginia) has been moved into the "too close to call" category.
Ohio-Obama

The Problem With the Corporate Media
Here is what is wrong with the Corporate Media.
This morning on the Today Show, they ran a segment pointing out that Sarah Palin is a lying sack of stinking nasty liquid Crap! (I miss you Stephanie Miller Show) It pointed out all of the things that I did in my post about the Palin Bubble Popping.
They exposed the lies, the nepotism, cronyism, and ineptitude that infested her Government in Alaska, and her two weeks on the campaign trail.
All this was wonderful and awesome and made me feel warm and fuzzy that someone in the Corporate Media is doing their jobs.
...Then it all went to shit.
Merideth Vierra (who looks like an uglyier, bitchier version of Katie Couric) brought on Right-Wing Radio Hack Bill Bennett came on and spewed lies and distortions about everything that was reported. He attemped to minimalize what was reported, in the same way the press attempted minimalize Bush bailing out of the Air National Guard in the lead up to the 2000 election.
This is the problem with the corporate media.
They are so afraid of being labeled as Biased, or Left-Wing that they feel they have to present an opposing view-point, even when they are reporting facts, and the facts have a Liberal Biased.
Where was the counter arguments in the lead up to the war in '02. Where was the "fact checking" on Bush going into the '04 election. It seems to me that someone in an editorial board room at these stations is so afraid to tell the truth, that they have to offer the opposing viewpoints of morons like Bennett.

Hes Got This
I love when he does this.
I just had a conversation with some people tonight about why the polls are so close, and how I am still confident that this thing is going to be a blow out!
Penn State for Obama

I realize when writing this site that the politics takes center-stage and the sports posts can seem a bit disjointed and unconnected.
I love when the Politics meets the Sports
"We are....Penn State" ..."Yes we Can!"
I am fired up this week. Ready to go!
"The Surge Has Worked" Mythology

John McCain is basically running his campaign on one issue, that being that the Surge has worked, and he and only he knew it would.
This of course is a lie, which is wrapped in a paradox. According to George Bush, when the Surge was first introduced:
The "troop surge" or the surge is a phrase commonly used to describe United States President George W. Bush's plan to increase the number of American troops deployed to the Iraq War in order to provide security to Baghdad and Al Anbar Province.[1]
The surge had been developed under the working title "The New Way Forward." It was announced by Bush on January 10, 2007 during a national television speech. Bush ordered the deployment of five additional U.S brigades to Iraq, mainly to the capital Baghdad, and extended the tour of 4,000 Marines already in Iraq. The overall objective of the war effort was described as establishing a "...unified, democratic federal Iraq that can govern itself, defend itself, and sustain itself, and is an ally in the War on Terror." The strategy had several major elements:[2]
The stated purpose of the Surge was to create the Political Space for the Iraqi Government to create reconciliation and peace, and to allow the Iraqis to begin to Govern themselves.
None of this has happend. If the Surge has worked, as McCain would propose, then there is no reason for us to still be there in a military capacity. McCain however would benefit most from a continued American presence in a combat capacity.
The truth is, the Surge has worked because we have paid the Iraqi "Insurgents" NOT-to fight.
We are paying the Sunni militias to stand down, and join with the Iraqi police force.
Al-Sadr has called for a cease-fire because we are paying out the ass (with tax payer money) to keep them from fighting.
So if you squint really, really hard, or you have 72-year old eyes, I guess it is possible to see that the surge has worked.
Punch and Punch, 'Till you Can't Punch No More!
The Palin Bubble Has Burst

The Sarah Palin bubble has burst. Conservative commentators, not far-right loons like Hannity and O'Rielly have begun to realize who and what she really is.
The McCain campaign did not select Sarah Palin the real person. They picked Sarah Palin the Narrative.
She was a compelling story, not a person. The woman who cleaned up Alaska, fought ear marks, represented real conservative values, balanced running a state with raising a family, including a child with a disability.
The problem for the Republicans is that she is none of those things.
She didn't clean up Alaskan Politics, she was part of the problem. She ran that state by appointing friends and giving legs up to those who she is connected to.
She didn't fight ear marks, she hired a Lobbist tied to Jack Abramoff to go to Washington and get more earmarks for her state.
She doesn't represent real conservative values, she claims her daughter has Chosen to keep her child, and that she would like privacy now. Real conservatives don't believe there was any choice, and if she were poor and white, or black, she would have no privacy because if they had their way, she would not be able to chose.
She hasn't balanced being a mother and being Governor, she has been an absentee parent who has let others raise her children while she fufills her political asperations. Who taught Bristol how to make good choices about her future. Who is providing the care that the infant with Downs Syndrome needs, cause it sure as hell isn't her while she is running around the country lying about every aspect of her record. And it sure as hell isn't her (oil executive) husband.
She cut in half, the state budget for the Special Olympics, and is running as an advocate for parents and children with disabilities.
The Right wing is scrambling to cling to their Narrative, because the REAL Sarah Palin is nothing like the one we were intoduced to at the RNC.
The Palin Bubble has Burst.
Just Keep Punching
It sounds a hell of a lot better than putting together a commission to figure out what happend (which is McCain's plan).
We know what happend Senator, and as a matter of fact, you chaired most of the committees that were in charge of keeping our financial markets stable.
McCain talkes about cleaning up Washington.... John, you are Washington, this all happend on your watch. Were you too busy inventing the Blackberry to see it happening?

Punch, and Punch 'till you Can't Punch no More
Just keep hitting them.
As long as the conversation is on the Economy, Barack wins. Period.
The Palin bubble has burst. The media is turning on McCain, and Hannity and Colmes have had to turn to "Obama Supports Infanticide" in order to make any kind of argument.
This thing is turning.
John McCain Invented the Blackberry

Or at least that is his contention.
MIAMI — Move over, Al Gore. You may lay claim to the Internet, but John McCain helped create the BlackBerry.
At least that's the contention of a top McCain policy adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin. Waving his BlackBerry personal digital assistant and citing McCain's work as a senator, he told reporters Tuesday, "You're looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create."
Republican's and Faux News do such a good job spreading rediculous shit like this all the time.
Last night on Hannity and Colms did an entire segment on Obama's support of Infanticide. Everyone knows this is absurd, but just saying it is enough to get the thought into the consciousness of the public.
So let me try a few:
John McCain called his wife a Cunt in public
John McCain thinks he invented the Blackberry
John McCain hates Black People
John McCain hates women
John McCain wants to bomb Great Britian in retrobutiuon for the War of 1812
John McCain proposed a bill to remove Utah from the United States because he hates Mitt Romney
You see what I did there, I started with something that is true, like say "Barack Obama said that people in poorer parts of the country are bitter because of their expereiences" and ended with something rediculous like "Barack Obama is a secret muslim who hates America".
And then, the news stations will spend weeks arguing about weather or not Barack Obama is secretly a muslim, instead of talking about what John McCain proposes to do differently then Bush to fix our economy.
Here We Go Again

I will preface this by saying that I still feel better about this team, under Jerry then I ever did under his predecessor.
The Mets however have squandered what was, just four days ago, a three game lead in, and now lead by a half of a game.
This team does not feel like it did last September. But I would love for David Wright to perhaps get a hit with runners in scoring positions. I would love for Pedro Martinez to perhaps look anything like a shadow of his former self. I would love for anyone, anyone, to get an out after the 6th inning.
I would love to fast-forward the world two weeks so I don't have to struggle through the agony of the next fortnight.
"See It Doesn't Work"

Here is how it works:
Republicans, and more specifically Conservatives (Believe it or not they are separate groups, just as Democrats, and Liberals/Progressives are not synonymous) hate Government.
They hate when a political entity involves itself in your life (except if you would like to be free to have an abortion, or be married if you are in a same sex couple, or you enjoy smoking pot, then they will stick their noses where it doesn't fucking belong).
So when these people (yes I said "these people") come into power, it looks something like this:
You are driving along with some friends. Your in the drivers seat, things are going great. The car is getting great fuel ECONOMY, everyone in the car is getting along fairly well, you are interacting with the other cars on the road beautifully.
When all of the sudden, the other passengers of the car decided to put it up for a vote who is going to drive the car for the next 4 hours. You put it up for a vote, and they decide the slightly dim guy in the back seat is going to drive.
He has never driven before, but he is sociable, and the other passengers would love to have a drink with him.
He hates cars, insists they cannot fix your problems, and people who depend on the car for their well being, are nothing but shiftless-layabouts.
Something shinny caught his eye and he looked away from the road just as the car entered an intersection. The car was t-boned and completely totaled.
The Moron who was behind the wheel, upon exiting the car, brushed himself off and observed what was left of the car. After a few moments of reflection he turned to the other passengers and exclaimed: "See, it doesn't work".

The Untold Story of the Poll Numbers
I am sticking to my story that this election is going to be a landslide.
You may be thinking to yourself (you know who you are), Terry, given the national polls that show things to be very close, how is it that you are so confident that Obama is going to beat McCain upside the head with his own wooden teeth?
I would answer this way: Pollsters use census data to estimate how many Republicans and Democrats are going to vote, and then poll that many voters.
The Obama Campaign is registering new voters in states like Ohio in the Hundreds of Thousands. The poll takers simply are not taking this into account when conducting their polls.
I am not sweating the national polls, seriously I am not. Remember, Obama's got this

"Senator, What Economy Are You Talking About?"
Sentator Barack Obama today in Colorado, speaking about the economic crisis we are facing:
Why else would he say that we've made great progress economically under George Bush? Why else would he say that the economy isn't something he understands as well as he should? Why else would he say, today, of all days - just a few hours ago - that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong?
Senator - what economy are you talking about?
What's more fundamental than the ability to find a job that pays the bills and can raise a family? What's more fundamental than knowing that your life savings is secure, and that you can retire with dignity? What's more fundamental than knowing that you'll have a roof over your head at the end of the day? What's more fundamental than that?
I love the tenor of the Obama campaign the last few days. Hit them, again and again and again.
Let Tina Fey, I mean Sarah Palin continue to spread lies on the campign trail. Let McBush keep making himself look like a doddering old fool every time he opens his mouth (full of wooden teeth, the man has wooden teeth).
Claire McCaskill has hit back. Joe Biden has hit back. I even saw Hillary Clinton on the news this morning blasting the GILF.
Obama's tone is perfect right now. He has to toe a delicate line between angry and calm. He is doing a beautiful job of it right now.
Oh, and there is this
VA-Pres
Obama (D) 50%
McCain (R) 46%
Fired up! Ready to Go!

Oh, how juicy.
When exactly is the little darling due, so we can put this one to rest. This is beautiful.
Classic
Hat Tip to B.C...(even though he knocked me out of the Dirty Dozen)
The economy is in serious trouble. Investment banks are failing faster than the Mets Bullpen.
John McCain thinks the fundementals of the economy are strong. His campaign manager thinks we are a nation of whiners.
Sarah Palin has become a charicature.
I feel better and better about Obama.

Blue Royster Cult

Penn State running back Evan Royster and his teammates made the Orange of Syracuse look like the practice squad.
Penn State accumulated more than 500 yards of total offense, while putting 55 points on the woeful Syracuse defense.
Penn State has run rough shot over thier competition in the first three weeks of the season.
The real tests start not next week when the Lions put a beating on the Owls of Temple, but the week after when they open up their Big 10 schedule against Illinois.
In what is being described as a down year for the Big 10 (I think Ohio State and Michigan are grossly overrated this year, sorry Notre Dame fans, but beating Michigan this year does not make up for the last 10) Penn State appears to be the class of the conference.

It will be interesting to see how Clark and this offense would compare to the better offense in the country.
I don't think it is outside of the realm of possibility that if Penn State can beat Wisconsin and Ohio State on the road, a BCS Bowl is a possibility.
As yesterday was the first road game of the season, I was able to appreciate for the first time this year just how beautiful the White on White on White uniforms are.

The Final Push
Obama: Let me have your attention for a moment!
So you're talking about what? You're talking about...(puts out his cigarette) ... bitching about that vote you lost, some son of a bitch ignored your cold call, somebody got a new add out there, some guy beat you in a debate and so forth. Let's talk about something important. (to Biden) Are they all here?
Biden: All but Edwards.
Obama: Well, I'm going anyway. Let's talk about something important!
(to Hillary) Put that coffee down!! Coffee's for closers only.
Do you think I'm fucking with you? I am not fucking with you.
I'm here for the White House . I'm here from Howard Dean. And I'm here on a mission of mercy.
Your name's Clinton?
Clinton: Yeah.
Obama: You call yourself a closer, you son of a bitch?
Dodd: I don't gotta listen to this shit.
Obama: You certainly don't pal. 'Cause the good news is -- you're fired. The bad news is you've got, all you got, just six weeks to regain your jobs, starting tonight. Starting with tonight's news cast.
Oh, have I got your attention now?
Good. 'Cause we're adding a little something to the rest of the campaign. As you all know, first prize is the White House. Anyone want to see second prize? Second prize's a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.
You get the picture? You're laughing now?
You all got elected. Howard Dean paid good money. Get the votes and win it! You can’t get the votes, you can't win shit, you can't close shit, you ARE shit, hit the bricks pal and beat it 'cause you are going out!
Clinton: My speach is weak.
Obama: "My speach is weak." My fucking speach is weak? You're weak. I've been in this business fifteen years.
Dodd: What's your name?
Obama: FUCK YOU, that's my name! You know why, Mister? 'Cause you drove a Saturn to get here tonight, I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. That's my name!
(to Clinton) And your name is "you're wanting." And you can't play in a man's game. You can't close them. (at a near whisper) And you go home and tell your husband your troubles. (to everyone again)
Because only one thing counts in this life! Win the election with the votes!
You hear me, you fucking douche bags?
(Obama flips over a blackboard which has two sets of letters on it: ABC, and ATFA.)
Minaya: A-B-C. A-always, B-be, C-closing. Always be closing! (looks at Clinton) Always be closing!!
Attack Their Fucking Asses, Attack -- (to Richardsons) will you please attack them on their lies? Their -- (to Kucinich) can you get on the TV and attack? I know you can because it's fuck or walk. You attack or you hit the bricks! Fucking -- (to Edwards) can you attack them for Christ?!! And Asses. (to Feingold) Attack, you fuckin' cocksucker! A-T-F-A. Get out there!! You got shitty VP picks comin' in; you think they came in to get out of the rain? One term Alaskan Governors to get into the race lest it wants to lose!
They're sitting out there waiting to give you a win!
Are you gonna take it?
Are you man enough to take it?
(to Dodd) What's the problem pal? You. Dodd.
Dodd: You're such a hero, you're so smart. Why you coming down here and waste your time on a bunch of bums?
(Obama walks over to Biden and takes out his Voter Registration Numbers)
Obama: You see these numbers? You see these numbers?
Dodd: Yeah.
Obama: These numbers cost more than your car. Your VP’s been in the Senate for two decades, how long you been in?
You see, pal, that's who he is. And you're nothing.
Nice guy? I don't give a shit.
Good father? Fuck you -- go home and play with your kids!!
(to everyone) You wanna work here?
Win!!
(to Edwards) You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this -- how can you take the abuse you get during a campaign?! You don't like it -- leave. I can go out there tonight with the materials you got, and register 1000 voters! Tonight! In two hours! Can you?
Can you?
Go and do likewise! A-T-F-A!! Get mad! You sons of bitches! Get mad!! You know what it takes to win elections?
It takes brass balls to win elections.
Go and do likewise, gents. The win is out there, you pick 'em up, they're yours. You don't--I have no sympathy for you. You wanna go out on those talk shows this weekend and win, win, they're yours. If not you're going to be shining my shoes. Bunch of losers sitting around in a bar. (in a mocking weak voice) "Oh yeah, I used to be a politician, it's a tough racket."
(he takes out large stack of red index cards tied together with string from his briefcase) These are the voter registration names. And to you, they're gold. And you don't get them. Because to give them to you is just throwing them away.
(he hands the stack to Biden)
They're for winners.
I'd wish you good luck but you wouldn't know what to do with it if you got it.
(to Dodd) And to answer your question, pal: why am I here?
I came here because Howard Dean asked me to, he asked me for a favor.
I said, the real favor, follow my advice and fire your fucking ass, because a loser is a loser.
McCalin
I don't consider myself a crazy animal lover. I eat meat and respect the food-chain. Having said that, This seems a bit over the top and disgusting.

Appaloosa
Not to get all Film Critic-y, but the modern western has been reborn. To me classic Westerns are terrible. I don't need to see the guy in the white hat save the town and ride off (and in Shane's case, die). "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" changed the landscape of Westerns. The final scene of "TGTBTU" was the first to use close camera shots to show emotion in a western. This technique has been replicated in films like "Tombstone":
Don't even talk to me about "Wyatt Erp", it does not exist to me.
3:10 To Yuma once again recreated the world of Westerns:
Appaloosa looks awesome.
McCalin
This is more than just a simple slip of the toung. This shows that she has absolutely no idea what the "Bush Doctrine" is and what it has meant for this country and the world for the last eight years

Palin-Gibson Interview
The McCalin campaign has allowed the GILF to be released from the Hermetically sealed container that they have been keeping her in for the last week to do an interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson (of the 1 hour of questions about Barack Obama's lapel pin during a major presidential debate fame)
Here is one exerpt that was of particular interest to me:
GIBSON: Governor, let me start by asking you a question that I asked John McCain about you, and it is really the central question.
Can you look the country in the eye and say "I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?"
PALIN: I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, will be ready. I'm ready.
GIBSON: And you didn't say to yourself, "Am I experienced enough? Am I ready? Do I know enough about international affairs? Do I -- will I feel comfortable enough on the national stage to do this?"
PALIN: I didn't hesitate, no.
GIBSON: (INAUDIBLE -- Didn't that take some hubris?)
PALIN: I -- I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink.
So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.
This I find to be very telling. This is the exact characteristic of the last idiot Govenor that was elected to major office in this country that drives me the most insane.
The continual habit to never stop to think about the consequences of the decisions that are being made. I wonder how often W really stops to ask himself if he has any idea what he is doing.
What Palin is saying here is, you go, head first, never any introspection, never any reflection, no self-awareness, completely void of judgement.
Palin is George W. Bush in a skirt, without the Coke habit, and the alcoholism. And that, my friends, scares the shit out of me.
---------------------------------------
Expect Obama to punch back, and punch back hard tomorrow. I think he took today to lay off of the campaign stuff, for obvious reasons.
Tomorrow, I have a feeling B.O is coming out swinging.
ENOUGH!

Bear's Brawlers

I have done a bad job of keeping up with this section of the blog, probably because I realized that no one that reads this is going to care. But I am going to throw this out there anyways.
The Bear's Brawlers (I don't think that needs a "the" in front of it) in both fantasy football and baseball have been on a roll.
In the baseball world... the long grind that is the fantasy regular season has come to a close. In an act of what must be described as serendipity, The Brawlers drew my former boss/friend Da Braves in the first round of the playoffs.
trailing 10-6 going into the final game of the week (anyone who doesn't play fantasy baseball is not going to know what that means) I figured I was all but done for. However, 1 win from You Don't Mess With The Johan, 2 BB from David Wright and Shane Victorino, 2 errors by Da Braves, and a meaningless run by Victorino spelled defeat for Da Braves, Brawlers advance.
In football.... the much maligned football version of The Brawelers (maybe I should come up with a different name) put an absolute beatdown on JD's Rage. I am talking Pelinor Fields kind of destruction. We were the high scorer for the week....which I believe is a first for us.
It has been three years now that I have been trying to figure out the world of fantasy football (I got the baseball thing down) and I think I finally got it...updates to follow.
Matt Damon
I love it when actors/athletes share my political views, I don't know why this is. I was pretty upset when David Wright went to the White House for dinner with W. I knew that you don't really say no to that, I just had hoped that he would.
This is why Matt Damon is Awesome.

Enough is Enough!
I love this, I love this.
Now if only the corporate media would realize that this is what the American people want.
Chill

I will admit that I paniced when I saw the polls that were released on Monday, showing that McCain had taken a lead in the national polls.
That was until I learned that the Pollsters have been polling a disperportionate number of Republican voters since the beginning of September.
Obama's got this.

The Rachel Maddow Show
Awesome, Awesome.
Now what would be really awesome is if MSNBC would grow the fuck up and stand up to the pressure from the right. MSNBC recently decided that they would take Keith Olbermann off of their election coverage shows due to the protests of the RNC and the morons on the Right.
In the Meantime, Fox News has Sean Hannity, Bill-O, Karl Rove, Prostitue-Toe-Sucker Dick Morris, Bill Kristol, and every other rigth-wing dick with ties to the current administration on nightly questioning Obama's entire life.
But go Rachel! Watch the damn show, the only way she stays on the air is with huge ratings.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A Mike Alstott-less Tampa Bay Buccaneers team kicks off their 2008 campaign today in New Orleans against a tough Saints team.
Following college, where I lived and breathed football for four strait years, I was pretty burned out of football, especailly the NFL. I have warmed back up to it a little bit.
My biggest gripe with the NFL, as opposed to college football is the lack of imagination in game plans.
The teams are so talented in the NFL that most teams don't play around with imaginative offenses and defenses. Basically every team runs a fairly similar system.
Unlike College, you rarely see Running Backs taking direct snaps, or teams (besides the Patriots) lining up with two defensive linemen and nine DB's.
That being said, I do enjoy Sundays. Fantasy fooball has got me interested in games I would never care to watch.

Penn State is is 2-0 and I am enthusiastic about the outlook.
On a postive note, I have found a replacement for Paul Posluszny in my heartMeet Josh Hull

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!
The fact that they can say this stuff with a straight face. I cannot even write half the crap I write without laughing out loud, and these people are on TV all the time.
The worst part is, as the clip I posted below shows, none of them believe this crap.
When George W. Bush spews this kind of crap I am tempted to believe that his tiny, tiny brain thinks it true. Karl Rove, however, is smart enough to realize just how full of shit he is.
Don't Say Anything...

But the Mets are 3 games up on the Phillies.
The two teams meet for a three game set this weekend in NY.
The hard part about writing about baseball is that each game is just 1 of 162. There are games that are more important than others, and as the season starts to come to a close, the games become more important. Specifically when they are playing against the teams that are trailing them in the standings.
Yes, I realize that this is the same team that blew a 7 game lead with 17 to play last year.
But that was Willie's team
And these are Jerry's Gangstas
What They are Thinking and What They are Saying
And to think I was just thinking the other day that Mike Murphy is a total dick, and I had no idea why MSNBC hired him, then there was this little gem.
The voices you hear are right wingers Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy, saying what we are all thinking.
The annoying part is all these people toe the line when they know the mic is on.
I changed my mind. I hope Sarah Palin sticks around.

Vetting is My New Least Favorite Word
But this is hilarious, brought to you by the people who brought you this:
"No Cunt-ry for Old Man" Hilarious.
Two Things
Firstly, and this is not my thought but was brought up to me: How dare Cindy McCain and Laura Bush stand on that stage on Monday and ask for donations and the prayers of people for those who are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Gustav. This after Laura's husbands negligence is the reason people are still living in FEMA trailers in the Gulf Coast.
Secondly, Sarah Palin will be out of the race by the end of the week. I am not sure I will even watch tonight.

Holy Good God
So that's what it looks like when the Corporate Media actually does its job.
Usually I have to tune into Countdown or Verdict to get real journalism, which is then dismissed as far-left propaganda.
This is from regualr old CBS News who decided it can still report the News.

Before Their Stories Change
Allow me to present exhibit A.
Scarby and Buchannon before they had a chance for the right-wing spin to addle their brains.
This was Scarby's gut reaction, so take anything he says from this point forward, in defense of Palin as VP as spin.

Sarah Palin's Daughter is Pregnant
Sarah Palin's 17-year old daughter is pregnant (maybe for the second time, Trigg?) which is not the issue.
The issue is that according to Palin she is "choosing" to have the baby. Isn't that nice for her, she gets to choose.
Convienient because if McCain/Palin are elected President and a hard blink away from President they will abolish that choice for other women in similar situations.
As a father of a young lady, I am appalled by the hypocrisy. The question I have is, will this have any effect on Palin's stance on a Woman's Right to Choose?
I am calling it now, she will withdraw her name for the VP slot by the end of the week.
